Since 1997, the company has been turning out thousands of these sumptuous cream cakes and desserts which are reminiscent of confectioneries in Europe. Chateau Gateaux has grown considerably and is now South Africa's largest manufacturer of fine frozen European gateaux and desserts, producing over 40 varieties of these delicious mouth watering delicacies for top hotels, game lodges, guest-houses, restaurants, coffee shops and caterers. The company supplies the airline and shipping industries with custom made desserts for their requirements and exports its products into Africa. Chateau Gateaux has recently launched a new range of smaller cakes into the Kwa-zulu Natal retail market, predominantly with Pick n Pay and Checkers and these will soon will be available in Johannesburg retail stores.

Recently, we made our biggest move ever. After operating for more than seven years from our old factory in Sydney road. We built a brand new state of the art factory which was designed in accordance with ISO 22000 standards and is situated in Durban's newest business estate, Riverhorse Valley, just off the N2 Nandi Drive.

The man behind the pots and pans is Master Chef Patissier Ilan Lipschitz, an internationally acclaimed Pastry Chef who has studied and worked in his profession throughout Europe. He came to South Africa to share his passion and introduce his creations to the food service industry. This range of exciting, frozen and ready to serve quality home made European cakes and desserts is sure to tantalise you and your guest's taste buds.

The company's Marketing Director is a partner in the business. Ms Robyn Webster is an entrepreneur with various skills and a diverse background. The company provides employment for many workers who have been trained from scratch to sculpt these mouth watering hand crafted creations. We chose to train staff in-house and teach them a new profession, which helps to uplift the local community.

All the products are made from scratch. Chateau Gateaux make their own fillings, toppings, glazes, mousses, bavarois, caramels, meringues, japonaiz, etc…using a unique version of the classical European recipes , without the use of premixes, additives, stabilisers, colorants or preservatives. We are proud to say that each and every cake that leaves our factory has been hand crafted.

The cakes are made using only the best ingredients. You can expect a cake filled with fresh cream and not artificial vegetable based imitation cream fillings. We use the real thing without syrups and colorants. Only genuine liquors, fine chocolate, real fruit and other quality ingredients are used to create our fine range of desserts. Chateau Gateaux offers you the convenience of having five star, ready to serve, individual desserts and large Gateaux in your freezer, with no fuss - you simply thaw and serve, alleviating the need for daily deliveries and stock shortages. This allows one to use their own creative imagination to personalise the finishing touches, creating unique masterpieces for your hotel, restaurant or coffee shop. Enabling you to give your guests a true taste of Europe and have them coming back for more.
