Kruger National Park is quite possibly South Africa's most well-known tourist attraction. Established in 1926, it is also South Africa's oldest game reserve. The reserve covers 19,633 square kilometres and that is excluding the Greater Kruger National Park area, where many of the private lodges provide more luxurious Kruger Park accommodation for those on safaris. That makes it also one of the largest protected areas in the world.
The Kruger Park is found in the northeast of South Africa and spans across the eastern parts of both the Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces. To the east the park borders Mozambique and to the north, Zimbabwe. Within the confines of the reserve you will find a multitude of habitats and the living creatures that call them home. Among them, 517 bird species, 114 reptile species and 147 large mammal species. Included in the Kruger Park's mammal complement are the Big 5, the rhinoceros, elephant, buffalo, lion and leopard, so named because they were the hardest animals to hunt.
Today, almost all visitors to the Kruger National Park plan Big 5 safaris in which the goal is to tick off these iconic African animals. While it is impossible to guarantee animal sightings, if it is your singular goal to tick animals off your list, then staying at a private lodge within the park or in the Greater Kruger, such as those in the Makuleke Concession (Northern Kruger) or Timbavati is your best bet. These lodges offer 4x4 safaris as part of your stay and they track the animals closely so the chances of finding them are higher.
The Kruger Park experiences a subtropical climate with hot, humid summer days and a summer rainfall pattern. It is thus best to visit in the winter months as not only will the temperatures be more comfortable and your chances of contracting malaria lower, but sightings will be easier as the vegetation will be sparser and animals will be more concentrated around the few water sources.
Options for Kruger Park Accommodation are varied and your choice will depend on numerous factors. There are numerous rest camps within Kruger which belong to the park. There are private lodges within the park too and in the Greater Kruger area. You could also choose to stay in one of the nearby towns like Hazyview or Phalaborwa and drive into the park on a daily basis.
Whatever style of Kruger Park accommodation you choose, a visit to this iconic reserve will be something you never forget.

"Marloth park is great for a visit in the bush and very convenient for visiting the Kruger Park. Lots of animals roaming the bush and coming close to the establishment s making it enjoyable for the guests"
"Will definitely go back"
"The reason for booking at Marloth was to enter Crocodile bridge (KNP) early and it was worth it. Woke up Saturday morning to the roar of a lion somewhere in the distance. Its the perfect bush experience. "
